DescriptionCharlie Murcott was well known in trotting circles as a trainer, driver and breeder with his first venture being purchase of MITEWIN in 1930? for £15.

His next success was with GOLDEN GLOW which won 2 races at Reefton and 2 at Hokitika. He broke a track record at Hokitika the first day and broke his own record on the 2nd day.

Crystal Star won 5 races including the Nelson Cup in 1956.

Charlie trained ORDEAL, converting her from a pacer to a trotter. ORDEAL was the South Island's first 2 minute trotter winning 5 races.

He also bred SPECIAL PRIDE, the first 4 year old to win the Rowe Cup (1980) in more than 60 years. SPECIAL PRIDE was a winner of 13 races and $13,000 in stakes.

Charlie had success as a freelance driver having numerous placings until he had to retire from driving at 61. He felt he could still race with the best.

He bred TOTARA VALLEY, mother of the Australiasian champion, VILLAGE KID.

He also trained a galloper, WINNING GOLD which won at Reefton.
