DescriptionThe concrete coaling tower at Elmer Lane loco shed in a photo taken in 1963. The locomotive in front is A 423 one of two former Greymouth A class locomotives now preserved. (Now stored at the Glenbrook Vintage Railway in South Auckland). I'd be interested if anyone has photos of this structure being demolished in the early 1970s. It was unique in New Zealand.

Have several photos of its demolition, was still partly filled with coal when knocked down with crane and wrecking ball

Had to climb it many times to change lamps in the floodlights on the top.
