Glenn Johnston Visited that station to meet the morning railcars for several years when I was a Press paperboy as the railcars freight included the wired up bundles of Press newspapers brought over from Christchurch. It also brought over the previous evenings ChCh papers that the Boland boys delivered. Press paper boys I remember include Gordon McIntosh and John Gibson.

Elizabeth Betty Woods Diane Freitas and I were the first girls who delivered the Press in Greymouth. I often filled my handlebars with boiling water to keep my hands warm. Diane and I protested to get equal pay, and we got it lol. Mr Saunders was our boss. The railwaymen didn't know I was a girl, I was happy with that, dressed like a boy :-) The men didn't always read the Press to start their day, Playboy magazine often appeared and a lot of swearing went on. Great education, particularly for a teenager in 1974. When I went collecting (term used for collecting the owed Press payments, I think it was fortnightly) Mr Jo Soster thought I was a boy, and he would say "come in sonny boy", and Nita would laugh as she knew I was a girl. We gave these out to the customers at Xmas :-)

Dave Lyes Glenn Johnston I delivered also but only on Sunday. It was a Christchurch sunday paper I cant recall now. Not a big circulation so just me delivering I think, but this meant it was all corners of the town and took a while. I remember Bill Dewan (barber) always left me a tip of 10 cents in his letterbox for me. It was well received. Jon White also boss man.

John Forde I remember delivering the the weekend paper early on Sunday morning in Greymouth in the early-mid 60s and got sacked for something that one of the other runners did. Won't mention the name but I still remember it even though I left the Coast in '69.

Marilyn Paterson I think nowadays The Press is delivered to the coast by Truck. On rural delivery at Kowhitirangi, and here in Canterbury also by our RD man.

Loved going on the rail car from Greymouth to Hokitika to stay with my grandparents. The conductor who looked after me was Bill Thomas, always remembered his name for over 70 years.

When a paperboy I used to meet the morning railcar and pick up Press newspapers off that platform from late 1969 to some time in 1972 when the railcars stopped coming and were replaced by buses. We met the buses at the Road Services depot cnr Weld and Sewell Streets. One of the station staff was nicknamed "Babberlooey" by us paperboys. I never knew his real name. Scotty was our neighbor at Aratika in the 50's, worked with dad as a railway line maintenance worker, the two of them headed off every morning in an old hand propelled jigger!
