They are still there a bit hard to find but you can smell them for a distance.

Can be driven too , but very boulders, rather bouncy ride. Are where the river forks .. Is a X on topo map where they are.

Lived Haupiri/ Kopara Village for many years started school there 1942 didnt know they were there. Were they way up past Coates
,Egan & Fisher farms??

grandad had stock up there used to here stories of the family staying in the hut for holidays our aunties agg and kath up past malky walleses home never went myself but my older brothers did and sisters

Leo Fisher I remember the site of Fisher's Hut on the flats. It is well below the hot spring but above Malcolm Wallace's/Gloriavale.

havea lot of memories of that area my brother keven or stiff culled that area inthe 50s one year with pluto davies spent a lot of time at the kopera mill with my sisters and thier familys a great place did the amuri pass once with a nephew got a deer by the slatey creek hut great time

Glenn Johnston i heard yesterday that you have to go through gloriavale land to get to them.. is that right?

No you don't have to but it is the most common and probably the easiest way to go from the lower Haupiri.

Glenn Johnston Just go to the office and let them know that you like to cross their land. They will ask you to sign in and out in the visitors book. If you not sure how to get to the entry point on the river they will show you . Its a bumpy drive but doable in a good 4wd.

I was in charge of a NZ Forest Service hut maintenance and track cutting party working in the area in May 1982.As well as doing work on the Cone creek hut the track was upgraded.The site around the old Hot springs pool was also cleared so it would have looked much like the photo shown in Glenns link.
