Lot of tragedy for one family to bear
Sandra Douglas
We visited last year & there’s tragedy on most of the headstones ..hard life back in those days crossing rivers ..
Lynnette Walford
Really sad ,so many died so young and the drowning ,,,indeed hard times..
Moi Mclaughlin
I remember my Dad (Pat McLaughlin) taking me there many years ago and seeing those head stones and thinking at the time how sad, all those from one family who drowned.
We are related to the Diamond family.

Many a tragedy in those early settler’s years. Hard work, hard life, crossing rivers, flimsy boats. So lovely to see the headstone cleaned and readable.

Gregor B Campbell a very sobering cemetery. I will always remember the feeling of deep sadness reading some of the gravestones.
Brian Molloy
The name 'Clonmore' where he was killed comes from the Town/Village in Ireland where the Molloy's originated from. It is now farmland with little or no trace of a settlement. These three boys would have been our great uncles Geoffrey Bell? Our Grandfather would have been their brother am I correct? And John and Jane Molloy our great grandparents?

Brian Molloy Spot on Brian.

Many years ago I often heard the phrase "Drowning is the New Zealand way of death". It was used frequently in newspapers and other publications. Today there are still quite a few deaths attributed to drowning. Visitors from overseas who do not understand the threat our deep fast cold rivers pose often die trying to cross them whilst tramping. Also every summer is the spate of deaths from being swept of rocks when fishing on the coast or taking risks with small boats without wearing life jackets.
