That is the Brass or /silver band I ever joined, which led me to keep banding for the next 70 years. I have played for A to D grade bands and enjoyed most of that time. Bevan Welleans was the Conductor of the Band for many years.Marlene Boyd
Remember the band practicing each week in the hall on the strand beside the Inangahua River. They were a very dedicated group. Mr Lou Kearns owned the grocery shop up the top of Broadway which had an old world charm. Bevan Whelan's owned the Reefton Furniture shop, Lyndsay Kearns was a farmer out at Craig's Flat and Tony Fortune was a popular Secondary School teacher. They were marvelous musicians who brightened up the lives of everyone in Reefton, Black's Point and the Inangahua District.
