Dixon Park, Greymouth
My Story
DescriptionDixon Park or as we kids knew it as the Children's Park was a place where kids had a great time at play.
On my last visit there the only part that I think I recognised of the old park could have been the frame that supported the swings that I used to get motion sick on.
Apart from the 'Piddling Pool" that seemed so deep at the deep end and maybe the frame for the swings everything is different from when we were kids and in my opinion not anywhere as good or challenging as what we played on.
The old see saws have gone as has that slide that burnt you bum and a typical hot Greymouth day and the swings that you could crank up so much the you were parallel to the cross bar and it would drop back down with one hell of a jerk on the chains. And no sand pit either, where you had to pick up the cat shit and toss it away as it affected the construction of the castle you were building. Those were the days eh?
The bbq looks like it has been well used.The Sante Fe milk bar was always popular when kids got thirsty but it was not there in my day
