CommentsLes Holmes Germanicus When I last stayed at the European, all those other buildings had gone. Room service was non-existing, and you had to provide your own drinks, but the tariff was free, Slept all night in the bar on an uneven floor. Plenty of space and feed for the horse outside.

John Rosanowski Just trying to date this Charleston street scene. I've checked the ads in the Inangahua Times and found W G Collings announcing having shifted his "warehouse" to Reefton early in 1878 so it was before that. The VG condition of the road - and the wear and tear on the buildings - suggest that it's not very early Charleston (estd. 1866-67) so probably this photo is in the early 1870s.
