I can see a likeness to Jack (John Henry) Crossman in the man there. Jack was school principal at Hokitika Primary School in my youth and I think he grew up in the Reefton/Waiuta area.

Glenn Johnston can you remember when we were in Libby Crossman class getting into trouble for playing cards and she sent a few of us over for her father Jack the principal to give us the strap

Yes I can remember being sent to "Crossie" to get the strap for playing cards in class. I also got sent to him by Libby for being argumentative in a nature study (science) class. [BTW Libby and Jack were both good sorts and I guess playing cards during a lesson was rather provocative]
