Myron Caldwell I recognize Aunty Jip who was there for ever and must have seen many a Headmaster in her career. Mrs McElwee. Was she Austin's wife. She was there for part of my schooling 53-56.

Myron Caldwell I found a mate of mine had been Principal there of later times. He had been been an Education Officer in the RNZAF and musically inclined. He was proud to tell me that he had played as principal percussion in the local brass band. His name was Lyndsay Laing.

John Rosanowski Was my last year at RDHS. I recall them all. A good group of committed teachers. Had a lot of time for Peter Bain, front right. PE teacher, and a sportsman and accomplished mountaineer. JIp used to send me down to the Office to get the cane. Deserved It !!

Myron Caldwell John Rosanowski. Surely not one of the Rosso's getting the cane. Janet and John wouldn't have got that. We had a leather strap, and Don Sharpe had a strip of conveyer belt which he threw at you. You took it back and he would take a swing. If you were quick he missed you and you went back to your seat. My wife tells the story of when she went to Avondale college. it was a converted American WW2 Hospital. You were sent to the HM room to get the cane, then had to walk with it back back to your room;. right past all the other classrooms. Everyone knew who got the cane that day.

John Rosanowski Myron Caldwell As a youngster I saw Sharpey coaching the 1st XV. I swear he was using the cane on the forwards at the rucks

Myron Caldwell John Rosanowski. he coach us as well and he hit me when we had packed down a scrum. I hit him back and he complimented me as I had been to gentle for his liking. he played rugby to a pretty good age, as many did back then. Dad was 42 when he had to retire from playing, although he was a fullback and it was not as tough.
