That is a Hiser patent Locomotive.

I was working at the Forest Mill in those days and Johnny Hynes was Locomotive Driver shunting wagons around at the mill and full timber ,peelers for Fletchers,and starting firewood slabs for NZR depots to Ngahere station.Timber in LA's ans LC's was tilted like that as by the time it was shunted at Stillwater,it was sloped correctly to go through all the tunnels on the Midland line.

The Lokey! I remember her, across the main road on the sawmill line to the station, chugging past our NZR house at the bottom of the hill right by the school. Magic.
