Peter Kerr Reefton was the last of the Forsyth and Masters stores;they were earlier in Greymouth and Westport and likely elsewhere. The firm was probably tied up with a Melbourne business. They sold many items of interest including flat wire rope the splicing of which required particular skill. There is a short length on the Blacks Point museum. Masters was the first mayor of Greymouth but died young. Mrs Masters carried on and was the "Co" (and I suspect the money bag for Rees was an engineer) in the firm of J R Rees and Co who were significant contractors to the Midland Railway Co; building the line from Ahaura to Taipoiti and Poerua to Jacksons.

Don Hutton Robert Craig Forsyth, an ironmonger and hardware merchant, was married to Annie Elizabeth Ormsby. They lived in Tainui Street, Greymouth. Robert had businesses in both Greymouth and Reefton known as Forsyth & Masters as the photo shows. The business partnership was dissolved in 1908, Robert retired about 1913 and left Greymouth after 50 years residence. In 1900 his daughter Mary Elizabeth Forsyth married Peter Barr an accountant of Dunedin. Their son was Robert Forsyth Barr who founded the well-known finance company after which Dunedin's rugby stadium is named. Masters St in Greymouth is named for Mr Masters I suspect.
