Brian McIntyre Thats the only memory I have of that hotel It always seemed to be in that state in late 50s early 60s as I rode my Norton past there travelling to and from between Greymouth and Nelson
Maye Dunn Lana Vargas when did you live there?
Lana Vargas Dad and Mum had the pub from 1955 - 1956 There used to be a stairway going up to a door on the right hand side of the building when we had it. I can't believe someone had this photo.
Claire Ward Have you got any photos of the pub from the time your Mum & Dad owned it, Lana Vargas? Is so, we'd love to see them!
Lana Vargas I don't have any Claire. I have one photo of me and the O'Malley girls ( their family had the grocer shop across the street) sitting on the afore mentioned stairs. I'll have to dig it up.
Lana Vargas When we had the hotel in the 1950's it did look a lot better in appearance than this photo.

Lana Vargas I remember the Archers coming in to the pub. I was only six then.

James Codyre Peter Walsh who owns his own stock firm(Peter Walsh and Associates) lived here with his Parents back in the 60s.Tom Walsh of Commonwealth shot put silver medal is his son.
Maye Dunn James Codyre did Peter Walsh work for PGG Wrightsons Timaru in the 90's.
James Codyre Yes and he lives out in Seadown still.
Maye Dunn Ok, I never knew he'd lived on the Coast. He was our stock agent when we farmed at Maungati.
James Codyre He went to convent in Reefton as a kid then St Bedes
James Codyre think if you google him,you will find his story is covered in The Press a few months back

Allan Archer Condemned after 68 quake ,demolished early /mid 70;s,,heard hippies had a bath with a fire underneath 'out back',,perhaps while pulling it to bits,,,stories of "Walshies" and the legendary hours behind locked doors span generations !!

Mawson N Kay Shaw The date of this photo was after 1968, Colin Hannah replaced the iron on the roof after the 1968 earthquake, the chimney had broken off and had gone through the roof into the room below, the day we replaced the iron it was raining and Jim Walsh was pouring beer`s in the bar as though nothing had happened.

I remember my Nana and grandad taking me there on a Sat or Sunday... they sat me up on the bar, gave me a Raspberry and lemonade drink and a bag of chips, while they had a jug... I must have been 3 or 4.. one of my earliest memories!
