DescriptionI snapped this photo yesterday of an Electronet truck being used to remove a crashed car wedged on the Taipo bridge. (Good work Tony Fearn, Adam Lowe & truck driver) Rather recent West Coast History you may think! Have a look at the bridge piers (piles) in the photo. These heavy duty jobs were originally constructed for a railway bridge but the railway didn't come as the route was changed. The piers have subsequently been used to carry the road bridge. The original design work was done by famous engineer CY O'Connor 1843-1902.
