This photo goes with Kelvin Webster's of a few days ago titled "Greymouth Wharf 1908" that shows an early dredge, probably the "Kawhai," discharging into a punt. The punt was taken down to the crane on the end of the wharf. lifted, discharged into rai[ wagons, then used for reclamation, railway ballast etc. It was a system that survived for as long as the old Harbour Board with the only modification being the plant used. Perhaps the two photos could be put together?
