Fourth is from left is Robert Wilson, the chief engineer out from England, sixth Charles Napier Bell chief resident engineer in NZ-the top engineer in the country at the time. He had a lot to do with Westport and Greymouth harbours. Next Alan Scott Gen Mngr, Behind him Mrs Broadie Hoare, Others in the Party included Mrs Scott, Broadie Hoare,Chairman-a London Banker. D'Avigdor, contractor, out from London, Browning, of Brownings Pass and now Commissioner of Crown Lands, Nelson. C. C.Bowen,a ChCh politician and Miss Banks. The wagon was built in ChCh to the order of the contractors, described as a handy wagon There would have been another coach as only two rows of seats in the wagon."

And to think how easy it is today with all the technology available.

One often wonders how many times did the surveyors walk for miles up a valley to find it was not the correct one. Think how easy it is nowadays when they can fly a drone over the area and quickly sort out which valley applies. Modern tech does help doesn't. Mind you it still take s a long to build the roads as it did then way back then.
