CommentsHeather Bennett I made my first communion in this little church on the hill
=
Margaret McBride walked there many a frosty Sunday morning, but no trace of it now.
Pauline Schafer Yep, I was there with Heather making our first communion. It looks quite overgrown there so I'm guessing it was after it was deconsecrated when the Dobson church was built. That would have been around 1967-1968 at a guess. Mum used to wash all the alter cloths and priests robes etc. and would polish the silver.
Scott Mitchell I think the Dobson church was built around 1963 because I was the 1st to be baptised in it
Maureen Kelly The bell tower was still standing when I was there in 2012.
Victor Smithers
Victor Smithers yep bell tower is still there ..
Shona Ratana
Thats where I and my siblings spent most Sunday mornings for either the 8 or 10 Mass. Freezing place. Dobson had Church there for years too which my Mum attended.

Naireen Bass
Heather Reid I have just taught my 9 year old granddaughter to play Michael on her little keyboard. It's a classic learners song

I was an alter boy there in the early 1950s when Fathe Ohara was the priest, coming 4 Sundays out of five from Runanga.
Vern Pattinson
I remember seeing that church very well
Simon Cooper
Reminds me of that old derelict church on the Ngahere highway.
Margaret McBride

Mum ( Mollie Kelly) was 1 of the women that went there to change the flowers. We played on the organ while she did her work.

Lovely photo - would like to know if there is any written history of when it was closed and also when it was demolished.
Christine Hart

Pauline Schafer
Yes we were there every week.! I had long hair then and mum would put it up in rags on sat. Night so I’d have ringlets under my hat for church. When the church closed I would have been around 10 or so and when the pews were taken out, we used to roller skate in it. So that would have been around 1965, and it was demolished not long after that. The old man next door to the church was Huey Keenan, and the Mosiglios on the other side of the church.

Pauline Schafer
Gosh Good memory’s Pauline. I remember both those families.
John White
As you came across the Brunner bridge the church was straight ahead of you up on the hillside above the main road. From memory Mosiglios were next to the church (I think).
Pauline Schafer
Mum used to wash the sacred garments and do any mending required.
Pauline Schafer
Carrol Stretch here’s a memory for you.
Bill Garth
Hughie Keenan lived in an old cottage next door. He was a cousin of my family
Maree Nolan
