Trish Rennie If my memory serves me right then Rex...Jack had a cottage in Herd st in Dunollie....he came into the store after having been badly stung and was all swollen...my mother begged him to go to the doctor but he went home and apparently died there????? I didn't know he was the same person that had the gold claim on the Barrytown flats....he would have been in his mid to late fifties in Dunollie.

Maureen Tones Ned Bourke had a gold claim at Barrytown and was my Grandmothers brother .she was Mary Bourke married to Richard (Dick)Williams lived in Puketahi st where the sports building is ..

Rex Bourke Hey Maureen- the photo above is my Grandfather Ned (Edward) Bourke and my Uncle Jack -my sister Clare knew your grandmother Mary Bourke / Williams-and visited her with -my Father Ed and with Grandad Ned on the bus hed take her into Grey-Mary died in 1946 & Ned in 4/4/47-we have Neds Gold ring made from Barrytown Gold-I belive - Mary Bourke was the first white baby girl born on the North side of the Grey River=1st march 1867-Ned was born 26/7 1869...The Bourkes=(James 30yrs & Margaret 25yrs) for bought their farm at Fagans Creek -Barrytown. in 1866 and another farm & house in Cobden so the kids could go to school during the week--James lived to be 81yrs old and died in -1918 after falling off his horse at Barrytown.-Margaret died very young in 1875--they had 5 children at Barrytown together between 1867 & 1874-Mary-Edward(Ned)-Margaret-Elizabeth-& James(Jim)'…..some people dont know that your Grandmothers Marys sister Margaret married Dick Williams brother William Williams..and between the 4 of them they had 25 children made of Bourke/ Williams blood…..

Maureen Tones That's fantastic Rex .I new Grandma was the first white child born and I think her birth was registered in Westport as that part of the coast came under Buller ..I remember Margaret my mum called her Aunty Lizzie live on hill in Cobden .I to have a gold ring on my finger that was Grandmas made from Neds gold .I treasure it . It was engraved with small leaves but over the years have worn off .. Grandad got Ned to make it as a keeper ring .we now call them Eternity Rings ..my mum was the youngest of grandmas children .Maude Trainor .(Williams)just a bit more information .
