DescriptionChristopher Morresey's great grandparents, Patrick and Mary Morresey nee Dempsey.
Paddy arrived in Greymouth in 1865 and was a boot maker, a very impotant part of the gold rush as you can't dig for gold without a good pair of boots.
Paddy was born in Waterford, Ireland 1835 and died Greymouth 1881. Mary Dempsey arrived in Greymouth 1886 to join her sister who either owned or worked at the Shamrock Hotel Greymouth. All her luggate got wet when she got off the ship at Greymouth. She had to get a new pair of footwear and that was how she met Paddy. They were married in Greymouth in 1869 at the Shamrock Hotel. They went on to have five sons.
Mary was born in Galway, Ireland 1835 and died Greymouth 1899.
