CommentsKerry Keating Hell. A big difference from the hey
Gerard Greenlees At least "both" stations are still there!
Brian McIntyre We lived thrugh a wonderful era alright. Not much of our living history left for our Grandies
Peter Creagh Waipara and Little River Stations have been restored and are in use with the Waipara Station still being used as a Railway Station for the Weka Pass Railway. The Little River station is a giftshop museum and visitor centre.
Kerry Keating Everything is gradually going Brian. Memory, logic, mobility. Cheez, what next?
Brian Howard brings back many memories....wouldn`t have recognised it !!!!!
Brian McIntyre Me either Brian. Was always painted up nicely
Brian Howard The good old railway pies and sandwiches and the cuppa on the platform.
Marion E Mundy Those were the good old days
June Griggs Don't forget the fruit cake slabs.
Marion E Mundy The old cups an saucers were awsome
Grant Ilton That is sad.
We were there last xmas, don't remember it looking that bad.
Brian Howard I used to stay with Viv and Olive Sweeny in Otira at times.Olive worked in the tearooms and Viv worked at the power house. The hills red with rata in the summertime.
Lyn Moe Did you ever meet the sons Frank and Terry.
Brian Howard Yes and there was a daughter too.....Vanya ?
Jennifer Gaskell When we lived in Otira I can remember Mum taking me over to the station to see Dad when he was working, that's back in 1956-1957.
Phyllis Aberbart So sad looking
Rarn Johnston man, i would love to live there, i can see so much potential, is it for sale
Rarn Johnston fried green tomatoes, the whistle stop inn,
Kerry Keating In the winter I would say there is a good chance Rarn. Man, it gets cold.
Rarn Johnston yea looks damp, the mist on the hills, would love to volunteer and, do some tidy up painting etc
Kerry Keating Summer would be better mate. No good painting in the snow. That's why you don't see brass monkeys there at that time.
Marianne Kelly
Marianne Kelly Bob said he'd heard the owner of the Otira hotel has all his collectables stored in there! Not sure if it's true though!
Merle Brown Worked in the refreshment rooms 1961 loved it.
Mark Burgess last time I was talking with the Track Manager from Christchurch, he was in charge of all traffic control etc they did not want anyone on or near the tracks in Otira
Jeannie Sales Sad to see it like that so many pies and milky coffees
Arthur Bass The office and waiting room has been tidied up and painted. It is being tidied up for The TransAlpine so it isn't scruffy looking. Guttering and down pipes etc etc. The bloke from the pub doesn't have stuff stored in the station. From "The Horses Mouth".
Mark Burgess that sounds more like it as the passengers on the Tranzapline would have been complaining about the unsightly building, the other option would have been to get a rail approved demolition crew in there to demolish the building
Marianne Kelly Glad to hear the storage rumour isn't correct! And that the station is being tidied up! Would be nice to see it tidied up and restored properly.
Rarn Johnston I'm keen to volunteer
Mark Larsen he did at one point to some discust have various bits of equipment on the platform - belive he was told shift it or loose it
Arthur Bass I think that was over towards the pub in the yard. I believe that section has been closed off now.
Donald Otten
Donald Otten prior to ww2 my father used to look after stretch of track between Coralyn? and Otaira.Lived in the railway house in Coralyn(not sure if this is the right spelling, but you know where I mean)
Helen Ruscoe The lovely toasted spagheti sandwiches and the cuppa tea. Loved it, when the railcar stopped here.
Lee Williams Block cake, yum.(Ernest Adams sultana cake)
Rhonda Voigt

Vern Pattinson

Vern Pattinson

Arthur Bass
It had a bit of a tidy up a while ago.
Colin Harman
Got on and off there a few times in the late 60s
Peter Arthur
Remember the cuppa and a pie - in the old nzr cup and saucer and the pie on a small plate. Was something to look forward to every trip.
Tex Everett
Those cups were so strong, by collecting them all, you'd have a good foundation for a new town hall.
David Howe
Afficionados would have you for saying train station Moe. Railway station is what they would have you say. But we plebs know what you mean.
Margaret Standen
