I do not recall that pub. The building looks familiar but in the 1950s many shops etc had verandas
Warren Thomson
In the late 1940's my Uncle Stan was living there. Used to spend all day sitting on the front verandah in the sun. On the Saturdays they ran race picks for a race meeting (two and sixpence entry), 5 points for first, 3 for 2nd, I for third. Person with most points over all the races collected. I know this as I had to pick the horses for Uncle Stan. We had a few collects.
Nancy Phil
Warren Thomson I remember a Stan ? (Was it Allen?) living there. Was he ex army or something? He used to have us kids lined up doing exercises …….. ‘arms out-stretched’ etc I must have been about 3-4
Ken Johnston

Yes seemed like quite a trek back then, from back right through to front door. Was there a piano in one of the parlours too ? Pukekura pub had a little parlour too up a step from back of the bar. Mrs Hende used to bring sandwiches in for the kids ,or we would go down to the kitchen to see what was on offer- when we werent out roaming round up at the sawmill etc. Good days !
Mary Wakefield
Jean, always a piano in the old pubs and Dad was always popular when he stopped off at a pub, he would never walk past a piano… singalong was very popular back in the day…
George Harpur
