My Grandmother, Mattie Hunt (Dewar) used to work for him doing the cleaning. He used to do his home visits in Reefton using a horse and dray.

Dr Wicken was a legend in his time. Available all hours and as you can see available every where. He was a real character, as well. Owned race horses and liked a drink at the pub. (Was once caught after hours, Got off the charge.) Kids liked going to him. He gave them one and sixpence to take home with them on each visit.

Mrs Wicken was patient in the HLC Facility I worked at years ago, she told me many stories about her life in Reefton, people she knew, my mother in laws family the Krimmers from Blackspoint.
Dr Wicken delivered my brother in law.

Haha, he probly had to lead it next to a fence or gate and take a flying leap onto it, like i had to do as a kid also with a semi draft out hunting with the grandfather

I remember the day Reefton gave him a sendoff. He finished practicing in Reefton. The whole town turned out to the Community Hall. where speeches etc were given and a big spread was put on for eveyrone.
