Use to go there as a teenager. Johnnie Cotter was the publican. Colin Dick and several other local identities drunk there. Roaring coal fire in the State built Pot Belly stove. A interesting clientele and a lot of history. Johnnie went on to make paint. Like Hendry Ford it was any colour as long as it is black. Basically coal tar or Bitumen base with thinners added. Never remember the whiskey but we were mostly beer drinkers. About 1964 or 65 onwards for my memories.

Ron Pearson Hullo Ron , Johnny Cotter was the publican and his wife Clarisse, You could write a book about this place I don,t know how we drove down the hill after good session there. The Denniston
Miners Union passed a regulation that the Wet timers bus had to stop there for a beer, Johnny would have all the glasses on the bar filled up and everyone would rush in and down as many as they could and then out the door. often without paying. Poor old Johnny went broke in the end.

I think that building was Charlie Hayes grocer shop before the Red Dog.

Colleen Byrne yes that is right , when the original pub burnt down they moved the pub into the shop, it was deemed much more important to have a pub than a grocers shop.

used to stop for a beer and stayed till next shift bus pulled up went home on dry time bus later when Johnny cotter brought red dog it was still the same
