Cheryl Heiskanen Fazzini The official opening was 21st December 1877. There were several wards not just the building in the photo. Hospital capacity was 60 patients but 70 could be handled at a stretch. This image is part of the medical hospital and was further north on the terrace from the cemetery, gaol and asylum.

Kath Stopforth The building was a medical ward and part of Westland Hospital. It was to the north of the asylum/psych hospital.

No. This is part of the Seaview terrace hospital which was Hoki's third hospital. The one you refer to at "Southside" to the north of the golf course with water access via Hoki River and Mahinapua Creek was the second hospital & there are images of it about. The first hospital was in North Revell Street and only existed for a couple of years if that long. I've never seen an image of it tmk but there are written descriptions of it.
