My Family was contracted to build a lot of the coast road My Grand Parents - having settled in Barrytown in 1866- so as you could imagine by the time of the late 1920s the Bourke Clan ( already having lived 60+ yrs on the ‘coast rd ))— was in number -many- So it is History that the first people to ever drive a motor car on the round trip from Greymouth to WeStport - to Reefton and bk to Greymouth -were 3 Bourke Men - (( the road wasn’t quite finished along Gentle Annie above Fishers ledge/ farm -befor Meybille Bay - so planks were laid out across a Over a 300 meter sheer drop to the beach below , so as the Model T left side wheels had something to drive upon — anyways they made it and the rest is in the History Books —the 3 Men were bk in Greymouth in the record time of 14 hours( todays it around 3 hr trip)

Apparently somewhere in our family history Mr Newman teamed up with a Mr Harrison to form another transport company and started it in Auckland.
