DescriptionWe have, I think moved into the fifties.
These photographs, dark as they are, show that wonderful dance floor. The boards were very narrow and very tight-fitting. They were beautiful when clean. It needed only a shake of ballroom powder and it was a 'must-dance' surface. Kids adored it, and they were allowed to love it by sliding. Kids were very important then.
I remember Ellen Fensom spent hours scrubbing that hall floor, and it was a huge hall!
The photos all show the same, except that my fun aunt is in all of them. This is because it was her photostory in her album!
Ailsa Cook, who drew the short straw to dress up as a man, (quite a change as Rene often got that job.) features in two photos, and Mrs Hartigan appears also.
I think that they look so happy. The first photo appears to be a circus scene, the second a scarecrow event (bet it was funny) and the third, just to show how smart they looked. I can't tell if it is a ball or just a dance demo.Date of Photo1950s.Map^[1]ContributorMary Moffitt

Great memories there, in the early 80s as a primary school child, and the stories i was told before my time too, it's a shame that the hall has gone being under spring floors etc ,

Is it a dress up dance because the dress looks more 1920-30s than 1950s. I was born in 1942 and my mum and her friends didn’t wear anything like that, their dresses were more like 1960s

That mrs Hartigan I think she is the one that lived with her husband,daughter nova and brother in bright st cobden.i was good friends with nova.mum,dad and nova have passed away.think novas brother is John and don't know anything about him.they were a lovely family.

Was a lovely hall and the spring floor was amazing. Those were the days.
