christ i remember Fairlies. Those fkn trolleys had a mined of their own. Would always go the opposite way your pushing them
Bruce Knight
I recall going with my mother as a nipper into Mawhera Meat many times. And Preston’s fish shop, although as I recall we got most of our fish in the small street opposite the library. And those greasies, I recall ripping the top of the newspaper wrapping and steam pouring out with that unique smell of hot grease and fisn’n chips. Priceless memories in a unique and beautiful town when your word was your bond. Whether you were on the fishing boats crossing an angry bar, down the mines in the dark and dangerous work, or felling and milling timber where one false move meant you lost a limb- and with the confidence that your neighbors and mates were always there for you. The Coast is strong in me.
Sandra Arnott
