Viv Cotter I don't think so. the Waimakariri does not go up to Arthurs Pass, instead it's scource is the Whitcombe Pass.

Viv Cotter Sorry can't help. The only bridge the comes up when I google Whites Bridge is the " White" bridge near the top of the pass not Whites bridge.

Wayne Morris Nope. The Whitcombe Pass is at the head of the Whitcombe on the West Coast side and the Lauper Stream which drains into the Rakaia. There are two passes at the head of the Waimakariri which lead to West Coast Rivers. Campbell which takes you into Tumbledown Creek and the Taipo and Waimakariri Col which takes you to the Rolleston River which drains into the Otira River.

Viv Cotter It's no where near the Waimakariri river, White bridge crosses the Bealey river, whose source is Mt Rolleston and other mountain tributaries.
The last or first bridge, depends on what way you are travelling that crosses the Waimak and this bridge is just past the Bealey pub heading West and you come to a bridge at right angles to the road way, it's a one way bridge and crosses the Waimak.
Were you thinking about the Mt White bridge crossing the Waimakariri? That is further east and is the second road bridge heading east from the southern Alps towards CHCH. It is the start of the Mt White high country station being the longest high country station in NZ approximates 60 miles in length.

Feral Parker thanks for that. I know that William white was the first to build a bridge over the Waimak (1860s ish). So just wondering why the subject of this post is called Whites bridge too
