Jenny Caldwell There was no welfare or immunization back when the Lyell cemetery was being used. Life was hard raising kids in tents while Dad's tried to scratch a living out of goldfields. As kids we thought we had things tough in the 40-50's. Nothing to those poor buggers.

Roger Strong Recall also those poor people who lost a partner/wife/husband. If you were a guy you had little chance of being able to raise children when you had to work and if you were a woman who lost her husband there was little support-best find another man in a hurry. Some truly awful situations must have occurred quite frequently.
