Can anyone confirm that there actually was such a vessel on one of the lakes? It would have been somewhere about 1938/9.

Our whole family joined in the fun from the time I was 6 months old. Mum would cook, bake all sorts of food. We would get on the trains in Dunollie and party began. The craziest memory is of ... our fathers running to the train from the local hotel. I was scared that he would miss the train. Mum knew better. She always did.

Velma Donaldson We went by train from the Blackball Station, hanging out the windows waving our wooden spinning windmills at everyone and everything in sight. Great picnic days.

Our playground as children and the creek running up to the lake boarded onto our grandparents farm

We would bike out from Hokitika and take a picnic lunch and have a swim then bike home

Can still remember the eels swimming around our legs
