DescriptionThe Mohikinui Mine bins at Seddonville photographed in 1966 with a couple of loaded La wagons and a Q hopper. A lovely photograph from my late friend Mr Peter Parker who passed away last week leaving a valuable collection of NZR and private railway photographs.

John Anderson: Coal was transported from the mine by a narrow gauge railway pulled by a converted Buick car chassis and motor driven by sprocket and chain drive to the wheels ,braking was by wooden blocks applied to the wheels to create friction .....the coal tubs were pushed manually into a tumbler which turned them upside down to empty to bring them back right side up required a quick push with the foot and a sharp pull with the arm to free from the tumbler ...from memory I think the old Buick was converted by George Seaton at Hector and brought from the mine 15 tubs at a time ,

John Anderson Thanks Gordon let me tell you it was bloody hard work for a sixteen year old ,,after being involved in the 1951 strike I couldn't, see any future in that industry and quickly got out of it .
