Norm and I both worked for Westland Transport when he bought the plane in the mid 1960s, and he made it available to other pilots (including my wife Gillian) to fly. At that time I was a LIcenced Aircraft Engineer, and I maintained and certified it for Norm. Very stable on the ground with a wide tricycle undercarriage. One unusual feature was the leading edge slats, (just like modern jets aircraft) which extended automatically as the airspeed decreased, giving it a very low landing speed. As airspeed increased after take-off, the slats automatically retracted, as can be seen in this photo. All very clever and effective! Ray Sweeney taught a number of local pilots to fly in this aeroplane.
