DescriptionStan Graham's parents owned the Hotel and Stan was raised there. After his parents died Stan's sister, who was now Mrs Webster, took over the Hotel and ran it for many years. This later photo of the Hotel shows Mr and Mrs McGee standing out the front.

Anthea Keenan Not sure, I remember the Hotel operating from the renovated Hall building next to it... Perhaps the old two story hotel became disrepair but still provided owner accommodation.... Then later yrs the newer renovated (hall) hotel had fire, burned down.. so total clearing away and house from up the road shifted to section....

Geoffrey Bell Mr and Mrs McGee (nee Mona Graham) are standing outside. They ran the Hotel.

Geoffrey Bell On the mantelpiece there used to sit a pair of chamois horns, the trophy of one Eric Stanley Graham, the infamous Koiterangi farmer who shot dead 4 policemen and 2 Home Guards. He was an uncle of Mrs McGee.

I always called her Aunty Eadie. Mums aunty so my great aunty. Used to ride horse down to buy packet Park Drive tobacco for dad. She would take me in and give me something to eat. Lovely lady. Jim Scott bought hotel off Mcgee's. Xx

Wasn't there a ferry using rope guides used there to cross the river? Hence "the long ford", and operated by Fred, Stan's dad?

I stayed there for several months when cleaning out Duck creek for Westland Catchment Board.

Been there a few times. Served at Pat Wells nee Heslan wedding in the hall. My Dad stopped there for a drink on way home from work at Stopforth Sawmills. There was a mill over the road called "Whiley's" I think. I belong to the Growcott Family of the farm called "Doubuoy". where the Stan Graham fatality took place. My maiden name was Higgins.

Dorothy mc caw from rakaia worked there ,then married stan graham ! Think fred longfords pub burnt down around 1976 , but i seem to remember that as a single story building ! can anyone jog my memory ? thanks ! When i lived in rakaia there was story told by the old guys that stan would fill his pockets with rice and run over the whitcombe or browning pass to court dorothy at te pirita ! north rakaia !

Wow - interesting!!!! I lived and worked at Kowhitirangi for a while while at Lincoln. Never really talked about by locals (as expected I guess), so really interesting to read the story.!
