I showed it to my mum, Laurel McLean (nee Williams - Fred & Daisy Williams' daughter) who is aged 89 and she remembers the house (Fred Williams' house next to church). She lived there until about 6 years old before her parents sold it and moved to 1 Elizabeth St, Greymouth. Fred was originally a butcher before working in the mine waybridge office and eventually was mayor of Brunnerton. Fred's father William Williams and wife Sarah lived across the river in Tailorville Mum recalls.

Pauline Schafer It is a great photo. Katie Drummond's house is still there too. I vaguely remember the library and doctors surgery just around the road from the bridge and Skimmer Williams house, then Mrs Upstan next to them.

Michelle Gibson When I was a kid, going toward Dobson from our place was The Kellys, Joe Bade, Skimmer Williams, Mrs Upstan, The Ritchies, Katie Drummond, The Brunner Borough Council (Next to the mine shaft), The Wallsend Pub, The Hall, Harry Peters family, Jimmy Williams family, The Leekers, and one house opposite them (their name eludes me now), and another house further towards Dobson up on the hill.

West Coast. Between Dobson and Brunner. Wallsend was from memory the only shaft mine in NZ ie Miners were put in a cage and lowered straight down. At the bottom of the shaft they walked out and had to get to the face they were mining, often a mile or more. Closed on about 1960.

We lived in Wallsend around the mid 50s. my parents were Don & Margie Williams, we lived the mine side of the road,across from us,up a slight hill were the Kelly’s. The Drummonds on the same side of the road.
Skim Williams was my uncle,being the brother of Dad.There were 4 children in our family..Don, Kay,Gail and Janette.

My dad and mum lived I think in Wallsend. I always thought that dad worked in the mine. George and Jean Carroll. I am sure that dad was friends with Len Green. We did also lived at 14 Taylor st. The house is now gone. Dad worked in the Dobson mine also.
