Directions to Lake Greaney.. From the Arawhata River road bridge along Tuning Fork Creek then up Thirsty Ridge to Minim Mere and Lake Greaney. A scenic loop over Pt 1643m provides excellent views of Mount Aspiring and the Southern Alps. After a traverse of Mount Heveldt, descend Callery Spur and the true right of T.L. Cindy Jane I have spoken to Dans nephew and he is unsure if date. He instructed me to re-listen to the tapes he sent me which are interviews with Dan as he mentions it in there. I'll need to get in to this but work weekends so will have to get back to you.

Glenn Johnston No Heather I haven't been there. It looks very doable and nice country. I'll add it to the list of places to check out! During late Primary School I was in the same class as Vivienne Greaney for one year. I think she had some tie up with Dan Greaney? Her mother was Betty who ran a tea rooms in Hoki.

Cindy Jane Betty was the 2nd wife to Des greaney. Uncle Dan was Des' cousin.
Lake greaney is about a 3 day hike through rough terrain I understand. Best access is by helicopter

Peter Robertson Why would you want to stop it.It just runs straight out to sea,then evaporates and is returned again to the land through the 160 inches of rain that falls there.There are no farms requiring water,in fact they are all trying to get rid of it.in the whole of the Haast area.Dan told me once that the lake is chock full of eels.Be better to make sure they continue on and breed there!
