James Codyre The barges came up the grey to the Brunner mine to load coal and actually went right up to Kamaka or the 12 Mile.as it was then known.

Peter Robertson Also once Red Jacks was settled James,the barges went as far as Camptown,(the police camp) which back then,1860's,was where the Red Jacks Creek ran into the Grey.A lot farther out than when we were there.I often used to dig up crockery and bottles when working right out towards the Grey.

James Codyre The Catholic Church at Shantytown was the Notown then Ngahere church and it was built in Auckland,dismantled then shipped to Greymouth.Barged up to 12 mile then dragged with bullocks to Notown..
