After MCFarlanes left the place became a bit abandoned. The Whitley family operated the wee petrol station there, for a while. It was then bought by Maurice Roberts and Ron and Toni Hoglund, who built the motels and tearooms. They shifted Ron Hoglund's house there, which was part of the venison depot up the road at Paringa.

Ian Sewell the Lake Moeraki Construction camp then became the Lake Moeraki Motels and is now the Lake Moeraki Wilderness Lodge. Many changes!

Sad to say Gillespies Beach was a right Sh*t Show when I arrived there were freedom campers in small vans. The toilet was overflowing with people crapping all over the show. Hardly any could speak English and I had jump start two vans. We beat it out of there back to top 10 in Fox. It was a shocker.
