DescriptionIn 1953 he was a medical student working over the summer with the Forestry Service. He later became a world renowned eye surgeon whose work is carried on by the Fred Hollows Foundation.

Funny how lives interconnect. I worked alongside Fred’s brother Monty Hollows as a flower grower in Palmerston North in the 1980s and 90s. Monty was of course always very proud of Fred’s achievements and that of the Foundation in his name.

I knew the Hollows family well as they were very much into cycling. I used to stay in Palmerston Nth with Monty and I knew Fred when he was working at Wellington Hospital as a junior doctor.
