DescriptionFor many years an inseparable feature of logging operations in the forest of NZ was the bush tramway where locos of strange design and remarkable appearance could be seen.

Paul Maciulaitis - New Forest had three Heislers. This one is now at Ferrymead the other one is at Shantytown and parts of the third one are at the bush tramway club at Pukemiro.

Elinor Tibbles - This photo was taken at New Forest Mill at Ngahere, Westland. My father in law managed this mill and my husband worked there later on.

James Codyre - I was working at The New Forest mill those years and my job was stacking LA and LC waggons with cut slabs for fire starting for NZ Railway engine depot at Linwood and Greymouth. A small pile that loco driver, Johnny Hines kept for use in our loco can be seen on the left of this picture. Timber was railed on a private line to the Ngahere station until a siding was put into the mill about 1968.

James Codyre - Sorry Rosa but brain fade after 70?

Rosa Hynes - You mean I only have a couple of weeks before it happens to me? Buggar!

James Codyre - I actually know that Rosa but was trying to be nice. I turned 70 in May.

James Codyre - Arthur Hill was on the slab saw.

Rosa Hynes - James Codyre, at least we got to this stage of life lots don't.

James Codyre - It was all that clean living and fresh West Coast air Rosa. Well it was in my case?

James Codyre - Carol has come through sinus surgery now and is on the mend. She sends her love.

Rosa Hynes - James Codyre, love back to her hope she is better each day.

Nancye Mahuika - Remember it well.

Linda Jane Fernandez - Is it the same one that parked up by our house at Nelson Creek...Nancye Mahuikaka?

Nancye Mahuika - Not to sure but someone will know. Remember it working at the mill when I was at school

Lynn Tacon - Mr Hines used to drive it when we lived in Ngahere and used to give us kids a ride down to the station and back with logs on. That was about 1962.
