DescriptionI received the sad news yesterday of the passing of Dorothy Fletcher. Dorothy has been a very dedicated South Westland and mountaineering historian, building on the many treasures left to her by her father and family. She is the daughter of Franz Josef mountain guide and hotelier Alec Graham. Dorothy donated most of her collection to the Canterbury Museum and the West Coast Museum. The collection at the Canterbury museum is known as the A C Graham collection.

I want to make this tribute to Dorothy for she gave so much or her time and resources to record and archive South Westland history, NZ mountaineering history and helped so many researchers, writers, cinematographers, children, students and institutions all around NZ. She gave weeks of her time to assist me when I was writing the biography on mountaineer Dr. Ebenezer Teichelmann and has remained a close friend since. She was very active in the Hokitika food bank.

Worked with Dorothy at DOC (formerly Lands and Survey) was funny transition from her being Mrs Fletcher, to Dorothy, team member and Co-worker, she had many stories and was amazing to see the Graham family history go from class slides to film!

She was part of my life and upbringing. In a small village every other person has some influence on how you develop. I thank Dorothy and everyone at Franz who made me turn out to who I was and am now at 81 years of age.

John Sweeney I spent a lot of time talking with Peter McCormack in his final years. He held your father in very high regard, and told me of his gold mining exploits. A South Westland legend.

I never met Dorothy but had a very long telephone conversation with her. She was amazing. She didn't come to Haast for the Airline celebrations because she had so much history to record and photos to sort and not enough time. Her father had inherited Dr Teichelmann's photo collection. She remembered Bert Mercer well and had some wonderful stories. RIP
