James Robthanks James. "Erl" that's a name I have forgot. They were smart boys and did some big work with old machines. Great Era. I knew them a well when the working Duffers creek to Lake Ianthe. I was on next section with Langridges. Great days.

our whataroa gang followed up installing the communication side of things,stayed at robinsons road camp at moeraki sidearmed all the poles over knights point,because of all the steep terrain,had to use gelly for the post holes near haast bridge as ground was so tough, impossible to dig by hand,ran wires under haast bridge,great fun staring at the water below,quite a few of thepost office guys came down from greymouth; there were just the four of us from whataroa; foreman charlie doyle, tommy arnold john flemming and myself,wonderful days, working in the quiet peace of south westland,home to whataroa once a week,and full of whitebait patties.sounds like an ideal life, but we did work hard,,and those days wont come again,just happy memories,,
