DescriptionAn old Greymouth family photo taken 1913. From left: Emma Rose who married James Hornsby in Cobden in 1887, Sarah Elliott b. 1834 married Thomas Rose in Yorkshire in 1852 then moved to Cobden via Australia,. Muriel Cochrane aged 2, later married Paul Higgins in Cobden 1932 and Emma Eliza Hornsby b. 1888 at Maori Creek who married David Cochrane in Greymouth.

The lovely Aunty Muriel. My mum Heather, was a Hornsby. Her dad Thomas and mum Agnes had three children together, Eric, Shirley and Heather. Agnes brought two children to the marriage following the lose of her first husband in a bike accident at the Cobden Bridge, John and Mary Kerr. Mary married Des Bellis and following his death, married Arthur Barrow.
John was involved in the building of the Cobden Kindergarten in Ward St. I was one of the first children to be taught there after we were moved from the church in Fox St.

Rose / Elliot heritage.
In 1896, Ellery Clark was a Harvard University. student. He competed in the 1896 Athens Olympic Games. He took the Gold medal in high jump and long jump, being the only person in Olympic history to ever achieve this.
