DescriptionDropped in today see former Franz Josef mountain guide Peter McCormack who is almost 95. It is always a joy to see Peter to talk rugby, West Coast and mountaineering. Now that Dorothy Fletcher has passed on, Peter is probably the only living New Zealander to have personally known Jack Cox, Tom Sheeran, Frank Alack, Alec and Peter Graham, Joe Fluerty, Jack Pope, Franz Barta and Ebenezer Teichelmann. Although before Peter's time, the Graham's used to tell Peter first hand accounts of climbing with Conrad Kain and Darby Thomson. Peter is certainly a link with NZ's mountaineering past. Every time I met Peter I learn something new and I jot down his recollections. NZ mountaineering is truly lucky having a living treasure like Peter McCormack. Photo L to R.
