What an absolute feat that was. My husband John Rasmussen worked on that road and the stories he told were incredible. He also attended the 50 Year Reunion from Australia and was so pleased to catch up with the remaining men he knew.

Cheryl Rasmussen my dads name is Jack Chapman, he turned 95 last week, and lives with me in Brisbane. Got photos somewhere, he drove bulldozers and worked blasting rock around some of the bluffs. I’m away from home atm, will ask him for a bit more info when I return later in the week.

Stuart Chapman my husband has some amazing photos and would have no doubt known your dad. John would have been 88 this year. I'm writing a book on his life story and this road was a big part of his story.

I knew a young MOW engineer called John Rhodes (5’ 17”) who worked in the early 1960’s at what he called Paringa, putting the new road thru to Haast from up north. I think he was coming from the north. He later moved to the MOW Westport office.
Kevin Oregan
Roadways contract. Air conditioned cabs were mandatory. Not all days was the weather like pictured. Kevin O'Regan
