Pamela Howard stayed there with hubby and as we were leaving the white bait started running in the Whakapohai river we took home to reefton a keresone tin full we had heaps of friends when they found out

Myron Caldwell Isn't it funny, that during whitebait season back in the 50's and 60's there was always the kerosene tin to put the whitebait in.

I have photos and newspaper article written when my father did a tramp through prior to the road opening. If there is anyone keeping this history I would be happy to give them copies.

i remember building the camp in 1964.Some was built on site and most of it was prefabbed in Oamaru and trucked over. It was very well set up run on a generator.It had a big cook house drying room and some one bedroom houses for couples.

I left a car at a camp similar to this one, at Arawhata bridge, 1969. I was with a group, tramping thru the head of Cascade R and coming out at Gunns Camp, Hollyford. Then straight to a job with Forest Service in Fiordland. Got back to the car a couple of months later, still there. Only one thing wrong. The wheels with new tyres had been replaced with wheels with old, worn tyres. But I counted myself lucky - at least they had been replaced!

I remember getting there on the fuel truck owned by Arnold’s garage Whataroa, driven by my brother John. My future brother in law Bruce James worked in the maintenance store on site.
