By: Clare Pierson27th Sep 2020 10:15AMI cannot see any tall trees on the south side of Cass square. They were there during the 1940s and 1950s when I lived in Hokitika. I am not sure when they were cut down.

Kevin Bell - Can remember Dad working at the factory and biking down on Sundays to get the jar of cream. Great days.

Alan Davidson - That photo has me perplexed. Exceptionally large crowd. Late 60s possibly 70s according to policeman's uniform. Is that a band in the middle. Was it a royal visit? Crowd too big for sports event I reckon.

Jeanette King - Girls' dresses and man wearing hat suggest earlier than 70s.

Mike Henderson - Can see Grandma and Grandad Hendersons house opposite the butter factory. Remember going across the road with a tin jug to get cream..ShonaandMurray Marshall
Most of the get togethers were on Cass Square and have great memories of them.

Agree this not the 1950's but more recent. When did the white police helmets of the style in the photo first come in to use. My intuition suggests that this photo is 1960's or even early 1970's
