Don Hutton Garney and son Bernie lived a couple of houses from where I boarded in Beach St c.1957 - 58. Don't recall any vessels arriving or departing!

June Williams Don these were local identities in the 1930s and 1940s.

Don Hutton Yes, I know. Garney Howe and Dongey Devany (spelling) were still around when I was a young bloke (18 - 21) working in Hokitika 1956 - 59. Donald's skill with numbers was well known on the Coast but it was before my time. Don't know the others.

Glenn Johnston Ed Keown was printing those cards in the 1960's and perhaps earlier. They were made available to museum visitors.

Glenn Johnston You used to get an envelope of cards including that one, snippets & Ford's Brewery beer labels for a small fee from Ed at the museum. One of the sayings on one of the cards was, "Use the Guardian, the Times are hard and the Truth hurts." Ed Keown was an employee of the Guardian newspaper as well as a Hoki Museum volunteer and part time curator.

Glenn Johnston As a kid it took me a wee while to get it but I never forgot the saying.

Glenn Johnston "Acky" Atkinson is the baths caretaker/manager that I remember from when I was a kid in the 1960's.

Glenn Johnston Ed used to tell stories about each person on the card. Garney Howe, Donald McLeod, Dongey Devaney Tic Heenan etc. I remember some of the stories. Was it Albert Lawn and George MacIntosh?

Janet Sutton Yes my parents used to talk about this card too. I have got one somewhere!
Alan Messenger I note a reference to a TAB agent. I think TAB only came into being late 1940s
