DescriptionToday we celebrated the life of Peter McCormack, 12 December 1922 - 7 April 2018, of Waiho/Franz Josef. Family and friends gathered to say goodbye and celebrate his life. The presence of the mountains and mountaineers were there throughout. Father Mike Mahoney, mountain guide and mountaineer, facilitated the celebrations. Apart from family, Mike and Carrol Browne gave tributes, and a number of mountaineers who were mentored by Peter, such as Dave Bamford, attended. Daughter Trish McCormack and Peter's grandchildren spoke with such respect, passion and at times, humour, about Peter's greatness and humility. It was so good to see so many people from Franz Josef and other parts of the West Coast. The former chief ranger at Aoraki Mount Cook, Barrie Thomas was there along with descendants of the great West Coast mountain guides Peter and Alec Graham.Map^[1]ContributorBob McKerrow
