Wayne Lyons Grandfather Benjamin Lyons had the store there along side of the White Horse Hotel and I think the Library and Recreation Hall was on the other side of the Hotel.

Geoffrey Bell 1871 Map of Stafford. The posted photo would have been taken about 3/4 the way up on the left of the map above Scandinavian Street. The Church in the photo is in Scandinavian Street. Scandinavian Street can be seen in the foreground. Owen Street can be seen to the centre right.

Wayne Lyons Hi Geoff, I do have a copy of a hand drawn map A3 size covering from just north of Goldsborough to part way down Stafford -Awatuna Roads and the Road to Hokitika. Done in the early 1900's showing homes(family name)businesses, churches, Chinese settlements etc. very interesting. Dawson's Point behind the butchers it shows a child's burial plot

Marcia Martini Our Grandad Frederick Martini is in the centre front row sitting wearing a pale suite. He lived in Stafford & was Bandmaster of Goldsborough Brass Band this photo on display on Billboard in Kumara Park & in our Kumara cottage. I will be sure to add names of the the other men to our heritage copy. Wonder who the others are?

Anthea Keenan Hokitika Museum may have some Marcia... Are you relation of Sr. Eulalie.... there's pic of her on West Coast Recollect site up at Stafford. I knew her from St. Marys.

Marcia Martini Anthea Keenan Yes Sister Eulalie was Mary Martini she was my husband's aunty. Her brother being Joe Martini my husband's father. Sister Eulalie/Aunty Mary Martini & Joe's father were all raised in Stafford, their father Frederick Martini came with his father Giovani Martini from the Bendigo Gold Fields to a claim in Stafford. Frederick Martini as mentioned earlier was Bandmaster of Goldsborough Band hence Gerard's love of music & Sister Eulalie being a music teacher. Thanks for info on Stafford.

Marcia Martini Aunty Mary was bright as a button & talked at 100 miles an hr even in her 101st year, she knew ever family on the coast and never let you away with a thing. Lots of hilarious stories she told us.

Glenn Johnston I think this photo may be later than the 1870's? I have seen the same or a very similar shot attributed to the 1880's. I excavated the rubbish holes at the site of the back most building in this photo & found no items dating as early as the 1870's. Most of the material which was there dated from the 1890's or later. There was no evidence found to show that a building had been there as early as the 1870's. This is not conclusive but one of several indicators that the photo may have been taken later than the 1870's.
