Wow. Lived in otira and worked at the Refresh when the passenger trains came thru. Early 80's. Parents owned the Otira hotel.

I use to catch the passenger train to there from chch with my children. Mum and dad lived in kumara and would pick us up in otira

Was the Stationmaster at Arthur's Pass 69-72 ,most probably there when these photos were taken. The Otira gaurds at the time were Larry Hogg and Bob Mason both stationed at Otira

My Mum worked in the tea room, early 50's, Dad worked with the painters on the railway houses. Apparently there were some pretty wild parties..... Mum said once they were all on the train over the pass to a dance at Arthur's Pass, took them a while to notice the shutters had parked them up a siding.....
